As part of Walking Forest’s three year collaboration with Future of UK Treescapes MEMBRA project Shelley Castle & myself created this collaborative artwork inspired by BIFoR FACE (Birmingham Institute for Forest Research Free Air Carbon Dioxide Enrichment) facility. Located in a Staffordshire woodland, this is one of the world’s largest climate change experiments. At BIFoR FACE large patches of 25-m-high oak forest are exposed to air ‘enriched’ in carbon dioxide which mimics future atmospheric conditions. The response of the forest is then measured.
