As part of Walking Forest’s three year collaboration with Future of UK Treescapes MEMBRA project Shelley Castle & myself created this collaborative mixed media artwork inspired by BIFoR FACE (Birmingham Institute for Forest Research Free Air Carbon Dioxide Enrichment) facility. Located in a Staffordshire woodland, this is one of the world’s largest climate change experiments. At BIFoR FACE large patches of 25-m-high oak forest are exposed to air ‘enriched’ in carbon dioxide which mimics future atmospheric conditions. The response of the forest species are then measured. This artwork features in Dark Mountain issue 28, Uncivilised Art, published in October 2025.
